Field Intelligence Officers (FIOs)
NOTE:
All FIOs were usually subordinate to Divisional Police HQ, and to the Divisional Special Branch Officer (DSBO), and deployed to a British battalion or company HQ close to the border. A close link with local MIO was maintained. The FIOs role, if employed correctly, was to run cross-border sources, and as such usually operated in areas close to the border. This information was passed both to SB, the MIO and to the local military commander.
In Borneo, the provision of FIOs was an Intelligence Corps (INT CORPS) responsibility (although a few were not), and as such they were non-commissioned officers (NCOs) and warrant officers (WOs). All FIOs belonged to, and were administered by, 2 Intelligence Company.
